Endelig afgang

At 06:50 on Saturday morning we flew from Hamburg to Amsterdam. After a short wait at the airport and a small delay of 30 minutes, we were ready to fly the last leg to Lima, Peru. A distance that takes about 12 hours. KLM has good service on board their planes, so we were served food 3 times. This month the focus is on Dutch food, so you could choose between a typical Dutch dish and noodles - which was a bit strange as we were heading to South America. You won't go thirsty on the way - and it's free to order juice, wine, beer and drinks. So you can really sit and enjoy yourself with your own little screen where you decide whether you want to watch movies, documentaries or play games. In this way, time passes quite quickly. After a trip with many air gaps, we finally arrived in Lima. Immigration is fast and efficient, but the luggage took a long time to appear on the baggage carousel. Before entering the arrivals hall, you have to press a button that shows either red or green. Green means go straight through without having your baggage scanned. Red means step aside and allow your baggage to be scanned. We were picked up at the airport by a hostel that we had booked in advance. They were faithfully waiting for us, even though we were well behind schedule. Security at the airport reminded us that you have to be careful in this country as poverty is high and so is crime. Condor Hostel is located in the Miraflores neighborhood, which is more modern and not as poor. This means you can walk the streets safely - even at night.
